Current Research Portfolio
From 2009 to 2026, under TPF-5(206) and TPF-5(389), seven phases of research were completed under the Connected Vehicle Pooled Fund Study program. Beginning in January 2026, under TPF-5(555), the Vehicle to Everything Pooled Fund Study (V2XPFS) continues the effort to integrate connected vehicle technology into national infrastructures.

OBU Guidance
Effective design, installation and operation of the on-board units (OBUs) in public vehicles has proven to be challenging. The purpose of this project is to develop guidance materials to help IOOs scope, configure, define and install OBUs in CV deployments.

V2X Outreach
The purpose of this effort is to leverage the accumulated capabilities developed through prior work to promote greater awareness among IOOs. This outreach is particularly focused on ensuring that IOOs are informed of key outcomes and advancements from the CVPFS and the V2XPFS, including but not limited to Connected Intersections (CI), Connected Intersections Message Monitoring System (CIMMS), and related initiatives. In addition, the V2XPFS may identify and prioritize other relevant V2X-related topics for the contractor to use in educating IOOs.
